Drum Roll, Please!

This is a creative writing piece inspired by the first day of the Christmas Billboard Project.
At this point the class was trying to figure out what our slogan would be, it took a bit of time
but when we found our words . . . well read on to know what happened;

Introduction to the Art Project

The class begins with a drum roll.

Calm phrases are casually spoken and heads nod as the drum sticks are risen then forced down onto the drumhead. Slowly there is impact on the stretched cover, making a deep buzzing noise. The notion of raising hands to speak is ignored as the buzzing gets louder. Ideas come purring out in a circling flow and the student’s voices become one with the buzzing. As more ideas are shared the louder it becomes. The tempo picks up speed as more and more ideas are fabricated, shared, altered and woven into the Big Picture. This progresses for a long time, as the buzzing gets louder and faster. Everyone is nodding at each other. Everyone is thinking the same thing. There is something missing, something has yet to be said, and we are very close to knowing what it is. The drumsticks beat down so hard and so fast that with every hit there is a new stick mark left on the white coated surface. You can see the smiles of the students widen so much that you may believe it will be impossible for their faces to contain them. By just sitting and watching you can feel this energy rise, your head will begin to nod, your smile will widen and unconsciously you may even find your knee bouncing or your foot tapping the floor with excitement and anticipation. The voices and the buzzing will build more and more, ringing in your ear until… CLASH!! Someone has said it! The drumsticks have been raised higher and have struck the cymbal! The energy bursts out! You can feel the hairs on your arms stand up. Someone has figured out what we were missing. There is a round of Yes’s and Yeah’s shouted out, followed by a round of Hi-fives. Then with smiles still beaming and heads still nodding everyone turns back to searching. We search for what else could be missing because we know that we have only hit the first note in this symphony.

And there you have it. Our slogan;
"What are you looking for, This Christmas."
This was inspired by Jesus saying "What are you looking for?" in the gospel of John.
Now a mayor project is under way for its construction.

Visit our blog again for updates on our project. Hopefully soon we will also have our website completed; there you will be able to see photos, get more information about the project and learn more about who we are.
