Ben Stein

Tell us what you think ?

Apparently the White House referred to Christmas Trees as
Holiday Trees for the first time this year which prompted CBS
presenter, Ben Stein, to present this piece which I would like
to share with you. I think it applies just as much to many
countries as it does to America .

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by
him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every  single one of my ancestors was
Jewish.  And it does not bother me even a little bit
when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled  trees,
Christmas trees.  I don't feel threatened.  I don't
feel  discriminated against. That's what they are,
Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry
Christmas' to me.  I don't think they are slighting
me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I
kind  of like it.  It shows that we are all brothers
and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It
doesn't bother me at all that  there is a manger scene on
display at a key intersection near my beach  house in
Malibu .  If people want a creche, it's just as fine with
me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting  pushed around for being a Jew, and
I don't think Christians like getting  pushed around for
being Christians.  I think people who believe in  God
are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.  I
have no  idea where the concept came from, that America is
an explicitly atheist  country.  I can't find it in
the Constitution and I don't like it  being shoved down my
throat.

Or maybe I can put it  another way: where did the idea
come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't
allowed to worship God? I guess that's a sign that I'm
getting old, too.  But  there are a lot of us who are
wondering where these celebrities came from and where the
America we knew went to.

In light of the many  jokes we send to one another for a

laugh, this is a little  different: This is not
intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to
get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early
Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could  God let
something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane
Katrina)..   Anne Graham gave an extremely profound
and insightful response.  She  said, 'I believe God is
deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years
we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of
our government and to get out of our lives. And
being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed
out.  How can we expect God to  give us His blessing
and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent  events... terrorists attack, school
shootings, etc.  I think it  started when Madeleine
Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a  few
years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and
we  said OK.  Then someone said you better not read
the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not
kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as
yourself.  And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock  said we shouldn't spank our
children when they misbehave, because their  little
personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-
esteem  (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide).  We said
an expert should know what he's talking about.  And

we said okay.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no
conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why
it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their
classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we
can figure it out.  I think it has a great deal to do
with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is  for people to trash God and then
wonder why the world's going to  hell.  Funny how we
believe what the newspapers say, but question  what the
Bible says.  Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-
mail  and they spread like wildfire, but when you start

sending messages  regarding the Lord, people think twice
about sharing.  Funny how  lewd, crude, vulgar and
obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace,  but
public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and
workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you  forward this message, you will not
send it to many on your address list  because you're not

sure what they believe, or what they will think of you  for
sending it.

Funny how we can be more  worried about what other people
think of us than what God thinks of  us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit.

If not, then just discard  it.... no one will know you
did.  But, if you discard this thought  process, don't
sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is
 in.

My Best Regards,   Honestly and respectfully,

 Ben Stein

Whats Behind the Art - Elements of Design

What's behind the art; the elements of our design.

All  artwork wether commercial or not relies on the basic elements and principles of design. Our work plays with  colour, line, repetition and contrasts and empahsize.

Wild and blurry brush strokes of red, green and blue give a sense of chaos and disorder. The lines lead the eye all over the background through  the repetition of moving brush strokes. The blue on red paint also creates contrast, particularly next to the complimentary red and green paint.

In the foreground is our message. "What are you looking for, this Christmas?" Most of the words are painted white except for the Christ in Christmas which was left in the natural wood state.  Among all the chaotic swirls of colour Christ dominates the scene.  Among all the commercials, shopping, stress and anxiety, we're hoping Christ is part of  this Christmas.

You don't have to look very far to find Jesus.  He may be the person standing next to you in line at the grocery store with very little to buy, the person requesting can food for your local Soup Kitchen, or the quiet voice you hear in your heart asking the question " what am I looking for this Christmas?".

I hope to upload an image of our billboard soon.

Thank you for reading.
Merry Christmas.

Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day.

A day to remember all of our countries fallen soldiers, soldiers who have survived and soldiers who are stilling fighting today. May we never forget their great sacrifices and heroic bravery. Among those sacrifices, is not being able to be home with their families for Christmas.
This project is about understanding the greater meaning to Christmas, of how its not about the gifts but about something much greater. For some, its being able to spend this time with their family and friends. However these individuals have chosen to work for the Greater Good so that we can be free and to stay free. In this way we can stay home with our loved ones.
This Christmas season let us not forget those who have sacrificed themselves for us. Also may we not forget all the families who will be missing someone they love this Christmas season.

Thank you to all our Canadian Soldiers and Veterans.

Christmas Postcards

Time is running out! Our deadline is fast approaching! We must be ready soon!

Its almost time for us to put up our billboard. Boards have been painted, letters have been cut out, wood letters have been drilled onto other boards and an image of our billboard has been converted into a postcard and sent to print!

Thats right our postcards have been sent print!

As part of our project we have taken an image of our billboard so it could be made into a postcard to be shipped around our city and around the world. You can purchase your own, this is our unique version of the Christmas card. Instead of making a Christmas card we made them into postcards to reduce the use of paper, making our project environmentally friendly. So you can send your Christmas message with our Christmas message.

They are available for purchase for one dollar each plus shipping. Visit the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board website at www.hscdsb.on.ca for more information or email Mr. DiCerbo at; Adriano.DiCerbo@hscdsb.on.ca

The Christmas Billboard Project

Thank you for visiting our site. Our last post was about our first day of class. We didn't have time to talk about what our project is.

As we see it, Christmas was once a holiday of love, peace & good will to all men, however there appears to have been a reform within people's hearts. What was once a time of sharing holiday cheer has been remodel into a time of materialization. We believe the commercialization of Christmas is a huge factor as to why this change has occurred.

Our tactic for targeting this issue is the tried and true method of fighting fire with fire. Commercialization vs Commercialization. Our goal is to make the intangible more valuable then the tangible once again.
We know we are not alone with these feelings. Who hasn't groan or gasp, when they saw the stores stocking up with christmas decorations and preparing for holiday sales come November 1st. Or earlier in some cases.

We are hoping to get people to think that this time isn't about asking for the latest toys but about something much more then that. We are NOT going to say what we think it is about. Our message is for you to think for yourself. Nothing we can say will be as good as your own personal meaning, be it religious or not.

Our message was inspired by the Gospel of John. The first thing Jesus says within the gospel of John is "What are you looking for?" This question is repeated throughout the gospel.

"What are you looking for?"

A nagging question. It really seems to open the mind. It can leave people searching for answers, which is what we hope to do. We want to engage the world to think about what it is they are looking for, this christmas.

Thank you for visiting. Check back in with us for more information and project updates.
We are hoping to launch our website by Nov. 3rd.

Feel free to leave comments, we would love to hear your feedback.
